Former Mountain View High School standout Evan Svoboda is set to make his first career start at quarterback when the University of Wyoming Cowboys take on the Arizona State Sun Devils at Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Svoboda, a redshirt junior, took over as the Cowboys' starting quarterback after redshirt senior Sean Chambers suffered a season-ending knee injury in Wyoming's season-opening loss to Illinois.

Svoboda, who grew up in Mesa and attended Mountain View High School, is excited to make his first career start in his hometown.

"It's going to be a dream come true," Svoboda said. "I've always dreamed of playing in Sun Devil Stadium, and to do it as a starting quarterback is going to be an amazing experience."

Svoboda is expected to make his first career start against a tough Arizona State defense that is led by All-American linebacker Darien Butler.

"They're a great defense, but I'm confident in our offense," Svoboda said. "We've been working hard all summer, and we're ready to go out there and compete."

Svoboda is expected to be one of the key players for the Cowboys this season. He is a talented passer with a strong arm and good accuracy.

Svoboda is also a good runner. He rushed for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in his senior season at Mountain View High School.

Svoboda is expected to be a key part of the Cowboys' offense this season. He is a talented player with a lot of potential.
