Philadelphia Eagles Release Initial 53-Man Roster
Cooper DeJean Earns Spot on Defense
The Philadelphia Eagles have announced their initial 53-man roster for the upcoming season, and it includes a surprise addition: Cooper DeJean, a defensive back who suffered a non-football injury during training camp.
DeJean, 23, was a standout at the University of Texas before being drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, he suffered a torn ACL during a summer workout, sidelining him for the entirety of the preseason.
Despite his injury, DeJean impressed the coaching staff with his work ethic and determination during his rehabilitation. He has been cleared to practice and is expected to make his NFL debut this season.
DeJean's inclusion on the roster is a testament to his perseverance and the Eagles' faith in his ability to contribute. He will join a talented secondary that includes starters Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox.
The Eagles will open the regular season on September 11th against the Detroit Lions.
