Harrison Ruffin Tyler: Last Living Grandchild of John Tyler

The American Chemical Engineer and Preservationist

A Legacy of Science and History

Harrison Ruffin Tyler, born November 9, 1928, is an American chemical engineer, businessman, and preservationist. He co-founded ChemTreat Inc., a water treatment company. Today, Tyler, now 91 years old, has become the last living grandchild of a president born in the 18th century, his grandfather being John Tyler, who served as the tenth president of the United States from 1841 to 1845.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tyler is currently allowed only one designated visitor at the nursing home in Virginia where he resides. However, his legacy of scientific achievement and historical preservation continues to inspire.

As the only remaining direct descendant of John Tyler, Harrison Ruffin Tyler carries a unique connection to American history. His life's work in engineering and his dedication to preserving historical sites have left an indelible mark on both science and the preservation of our nation's past. His story serves as a reminder of the enduring impact individuals can have on shaping the world we live in.
